Latvian Jews Executed during the Stalin Era
The dispersion of Latvian Jews as a result of wars, revolutions and economic pressures led to their migration to, inter alia, other locations in what was then, or later became, the Soviet Union. There many were caught up in the upheavals of Stalinist rule. An on-line database, in Russian, lists more than 2000 Jews who lived in Moscow and were executed during the Stalin era. It contains very detailed information - age, birthplace, education, occupation of the parents (not all records), own occupation, home address, court verdict, execution date and place, burial place and rehabilitation date. Stanislav Gorbulev identified about 100 persons with Latvian roots and extracted and translated the names and places of origin. The additional information is quite extensive and is best sought on a case-by-case basis after individuals of interest have been identified from the list below. A similar list of people with origins in and around Belarus is available on the Belarus SIG web site.
