Yizkor Book Project
Summary
November 2024
Shalom!
It is with great pleasure that I am able to inform you of the completion of the Radomsko, Poland “Memorial Book of the Community of Radomsk and Vicinity”. This project was coordinated with great dedication over many years by Gloria Berkenstat Freund; Gloria also carried out its translation from Yiddish into English. The Hebrew section of this book was translated by a number of people, notably among these are volunteers Hadas Eyal and Sara Mages. This combined effort allowed us to achieve its successful completion and I sincerely thank all of those involved in this project.
It seems that hardly a month goes by without my hearing from Beate Schützmann-Krebs, who translates books relating to pre-Holocaust Białystok. Just recently, Beate contacted me about “Memoirs and Writings of a Białystoke”. Beate has kindly donated her translation of this memoir, which she notes is a “very detailed insight into the vibrant Jewish Bialystok of the 1900s from the perspective of a sensitive, extremely intelligent child and later young man.” Our grateful thanks go out to Beate for this, and for the many other, donations she has given us.
As I regularly point out, the best way to see the translation of a Yizkor book become a reality is for those people interested in a particular community to set up a dedicated translation fund to cover the cost of a professional translation.
We do have quite a number of translation funds that are already set up. I am pleased to let you know that a new donation system to these funds has been put in place with quite a number of advantages and improvements to the current system. Some of the highlights are:
- A donor no longer needs to log into JewishGen to make a donation.
- A donation may be made in honor of a person.
- Donations can be set up to recur automatically each month or on an annual basis.
- Donations may be made by credit card or by Google Pay.
I welcome you to visit our Yizkor Book Translation Funds page where you can familiarize yourself with this new system and, perhaps, support one of these important projects.
