Passover Eve 5696 | Dotnuva 7 April 1936 |
Shalom Freida!
I received your letter a week ago in Falonja, and here today, on Passover Eve, I came home and I will fulfill two missions together. I will write for myself and also for my family members because all of them are busy with the preparations for the holiday. Your letter was really interesting to me because I found in it news from your new life. You ask me to write you the truth from Dotnuva and from home. Imagine that you are coming from Kovna to Dotnuva for the holiday and Dotnuva is the same, gloomy, gray and quiet - nothing is new, there is no life, everything as it was. You write that you are interested to know about the situation in Lithuania, especially about the economic life, that like us you know very well about the political situation. Indeed, the atmosphere is loaded with explosives and motivates young people to leave the country and wander to much safer locations. I don't have any more news and Pessie is waiting for her turn. So I will give up this time and finish my writing. Greetings to aunt and uncle and to the rest of our relatives. Happy holiday and fruitful work, Yours Moshe |
Shalom Freidale,
Yesterday we received your letter and also a letter and a package from Shoshanna by way of Keiche Gerber who returned from Eretz-Yisrael. It is impossible to tell you everything that Keiche told us because all the writing paper in Dotnuva will not be enough for me. She has thousands of stories from everyone and about everything. She gave us greetings from Shoshanna and told us that she is working and earning not a bad salary. She doesn't look bad and she is satisfied with her life in Eretz Israel. She says that everyone is working very hard, and a person from Dotnuva will not be able to imagine the difficult life there. Keiche said that Shoshanna came to her together with Winitzki "my little bird" (a nickname). She says that if you saw Winitzki you wouldn't recognize him. Not him. He is working very hard but he is earning not a bad salary. Shoshanna sent us a black dress with embroidered flowers on the back, it is Japanese work. A tie, a Matza cover, and a brooch made by Bezalel. All the gifts are very nice but I like the brooch the most. Yes Shulamit, the first Seder will take place this evening. Everything is almost ready at home, but there is still some work to do. Lea organized the house very nice. Mother just finished to Kasher the frying pans and the oven. Miriam is repairing a shirt for father. Everyone has a job, only Moshe can't find a job that will suit him. I will write you a much longer letter during the intermediate days of Passover. Thousands of greeting to uncle and aunt and kisses to you. Yours Pessie |
My darling daughter Freida!
How are you my daughter? Today, on Passover Eve, when the children gather at home we remember that two more children are missing at home. But immediately, at the same time that it comes to my mind, I am very happy with it. Only G-d will help you to be successful wherever you turn, that we will only hear good news from you and see you happy. We have no news. Thank G-d we're all healthy. Be healthy too. Your father
Warm regards to uncle and aunt, may you all be healthy. |
To dear Freida!
I'm at home and this time I came exactly for Passover. You must be wondering why I was allowed to come home for the holiday, but there is a reason for everything, and this time a flood came to my rescue. Exactly on Purim day the Neman River moved and the water rose. We lived in Yanova Street and the water flooded our home. We were forced to leave the apartment and move to private homes, meaning to rooms. And so it happened that the collective scattered for a while, until after Passover. By that time the apartment will have dried and we will be able to return to it. In general, it was very cheerful during the flood, we sailed by boats as much as we could and because the collective scattered we traveled home for the holiday. There is no news at home. Everyone is healthy and busy with the preparations for the holiday. How have you been? How are you? Are you accustomed to your new life? Is your job too difficult for you? It would be interesting to know whether our uncle's factory is similar to our factory. So, I have no news. I'm working and I'm satisfied. Why didn't you answer my letter? It is not nice of you. Write me to my address. Greetings from Dvora Yageite, she is also working in a factory. She wants to resign from her job and leave Lithuania altogether, but this matter is not very easy right now, we can only hope that we will be able to go to Eretz Israel sometime. Teibale Suvitz is going right after Passover. I saw your letter yesterday, the packages that you send us will be of great help to us. Thank you. This will make do for now. Shalom and many blessings, yours Lea Greetings to uncle and aunt. |
