The “Chevrat Hamita” [“Coffin bearers”] Society in 1925. Founded in 1832 by simple Jews, they took upon themselves to carry the coffins to the cemetery which was far from the city. They had their own synagogue in which they would say “Psalms” as soon as the sun rose.
