A county town in the Sakiai district, on the left bank of the Neman River, opposite Jubarkas. In 1923, it had 307 Jewish inhabitants. According to a survey conducted by the Lithuanian government in 1931, it had 2 taverns owned by Jews. After the invasion of Lithuania by the Germans, the Jews met the same fate as their brethren.
