A county town in the Alytus district, 10 km southeast of Butrimonys. In 1923, the town had 249 residents and among them were 18 Jews. In June 1941, when Germany conquered Lithuania, the fate of the Jews of Pivasiunai was the same as the fate of the Jews in the surrounding areas.
