In Yiddish, Veper
A county town in the Ukmerge district. A few Jewish families lived in Vepriai before WWI. In 1923, the town had 18 Jews. 13 people voted to the 18th Zionist Congress in 1933. 12 of them voted for the Grossmanists' party, and one for the Mizrakhi.
The revolutionist, Moshe Gutman, was born in Vepriai in 1833. Subsequently, he was a delegate in Kerensky's temporary parliament. Gutman was murdered in 1939, during Stalin's cleansing.
In June 1941, when Germany conquered Lithuania, the fate of the Jews of Vepriai was the same as the fate of the Jews in the surrounding areas.
