Geleziai

In Yiddish, Gelezh

Written by Josef Rosin

Translated by Shimon Joffe

A village in the Panevezys district, 17 km. distant from Kupiskis. Before the First World War a few Jewish families lived there. During the period of Lithuanian independence, it continued to have a few Jewish families. In the elections to the 19th Zionist Congress in 1935, 14 persons cast their votes, in short, they voted for the Labor Eretz -Yisrael list. In the list of Jewish communities for 1938 Geleziai is mentioned as being occupied by the Germans in June, 1941. The fate of the Jews in Geleziai was the same as that of the Jews of the vicinity.
