8/26/2026 4:56 PM This is a Jewish birth record for Rakov, Belarus, from 1889. I think it may include the surname Danishefsky, and would like to know what the full record says.
Please email me if any questions, yehudazevrubin@gmail.com. Thanks in advance!

8/26/2026 4:55 PM I would be grateful for the translation of three Krul birth names and their birth dates for 523, 524 and 525. I believe the birth names are Ruchla Laia (523) Szymon (524) and Frymeta Gitlia (525) all registered in 1895. View the post with its 1 response

115214 Translation - Polish

8/26/2026 4:55 PM From Skanoteka via Geneteka.

I believe Akta 44 is my great-great-great-grandmother’s sister’s 1819 birth record from Zaręby Kościelne, Płock, Poland. I would like it translated in full (or at least everything that isn’t the standard wording of a birth record).

Names that I would expect to see in the text are:
- the child’s name: Tema Chaja;
- her father: Abraham, son of Herszko (the family later
adopted the surname WAJNTROB);
- her mother: Mirka, daughter of Idzko and Zelda.

Thanks so much!

115215 Photo Identification

8/26/2026 4:55 PM I would like to know the approximate date this photo would have been taken. I believe it is a school photo and one of the children may have been my great-uncle. There is some text on the top of this photo which I believe is the name 'Yosel'. I am posting a second photo with the text on the back of this photo. I believe the text is in yiddish but am not sure. 8/26/2026 4:55 PM I am not sure if the text on this photo, which is on the back of the previous school photo I posted, is in yiddish or Hebrew. I hope it is possible to get some translation. I believe it was written by my great-uncle. View the post with its 1 response

115206 Translation - German

8/26/2026 4:52 PM Composite image I made from the Hamburg passenger departure list for the S.S. Rugia, June 1887 (Hamburg Direct Lists, Band 58, image 395 of image group 008907929, FamilySearch).

Four of my family appear together as Moser: Bunye (44), Chaje (19), Basche (17) and Lebel (4). All four share a single bracketed entry in the Wohnort column: one short place name followed by "Russ." Column 6 (Im Staate oder in der Provinz) was left blank, so this bracketed word is my only clue to their town of origin.

I have read it as Poethof, Pochhof, Bochhof or Poelhof - it seems to begin with P or B and end in -of or -hof, but I cannot settle it. I have placed the word beside other examples of the same clerk's handwriting from elsewhere on the page so the letterforms can be compared directly.

Can anyone read this word with confidence, or suggest what town it might be? Many thanks.

8/26/2026 4:52 PM Close-up of the bracketed entry in the Wohnort (residence) column of the Hamburg passenger departure list for the S.S. Rugia, June 1887 (Hamburg Direct Lists, Band 58, image 395 of image group 008907929, FamilySearch).

The bracket covers four members of my family, listed as Moser: Bunye (44), Chaje (19), Basche (17) and Lebel (4). The entry is one short place name followed by "Russ." (Russland). Column 6 (Im Staate oder in der Provinz) was left blank on this line, so this single word is my only record of the town they came from.

My own readings have been Poethof, Pochhof, Bochhof and Poelhof - it appears to begin with P or B and to end in -of or -hof - but I cannot settle it.

Can anyone read this word, or suggest a town in the Russian Empire that would fit? Many thanks.

8/26/2026 4:52 PM The four rows for my family on the Hamburg passenger departure list for the S.S. Rugia, June 1887 (Hamburg Direct Lists, Band 58, image 395 of image group 008907929, FamilySearch).

They are listed as Moser: Bunye (44, Beruf given as Frau), Chaje (19), Basche (17) and Lebel (4). They travelled together and share one bracketed entry in the Wohnort column. The same four appear consecutively on the New York arrival manifest for the Rugia (NARA M237, film 508).

I would be grateful for a full reading of these four rows - every column, including the ages, the Beruf entries and anything written in the columns to the right - as I have only been able to make out part of it. I am especially interested in any detail that might point to where in the Russian Empire they came from, since the Staat/Provinz column was left blank.

Thank you very much.

8/26/2026 4:51 PM Please could you give me a transcription of this family entry from the 1858 revision list (see associated image for the females page). 8/23/2026 5:33 PM This is an 1898 marriage record from Wysokie Mazowieckie, Łomza, Poland for my great-grandfather’s first-cousin. I would be grateful if someone could translate it in full (or at least everything that isn’t the standard wording of a marriage record).

Names that I would expect to see in the text are:
- the bride: Chana GERINGER/HERYNGER;
- her father: Szmul GERINGER/HERYNGER;
- her mother: Itta Refa MAZOWIEC;
- the groom: Berko Chacko SENDAK.

Here’s a link to the record, in case the resolution of the uploaded file isn’t high enough: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSDB-GSFZ-4?lang=en&i=34

115191 Translation - Yiddish

8/23/2026 5:33 PM Hebrew/Yiddish side of a 1928 duplicate of a 1903 Jewish community birth
record, Zemaiciu Naumiestis (Naishtot), Lithuania.

Please read the handwritten entry in the middle field, labelled
"yom u-shnat ha-leida be-milim (ha-ta'arikh ha-ivri)" - day and year of
birth in words, Hebrew date.

I need the day and month only. Is it 15 Elul or 28 Elul 5663 - or
something else?

This matters because the Lithuanian side of the same document gives
7 September 1903. If the Hebrew reads 15 Elul, that is 7 September
Gregorian. If it reads 28 Elul, the civil date was Old Style Julian and
the true Gregorian date is 20 September 1903.

The top and bottom fields are the parents' residence and the place of
birth, both of which I read as Naishtot - happy to be corrected on those
too.

8/23/2026 5:33 PM Two renderings of the same name, from the left and right of one document:
a 1928 duplicate of a 1903 Jewish community birth record, Zemaiciu
Naumiestis (Naishtot), Lithuania. Both fields name the mohel.

A - Lithuanian side: "M. KRAKA_ _ SKY" - I cannot resolve two or three
characters in the middle of the surname.

B - Hebrew/Yiddish side, same name, same clerk, written more fully.

Two questions:
1. Is the given name MENDEL?
2. Does the surname read Krakinovsky, Krakanovsky, or something else?
It is probably toponymic, from Krekenava (Yiddish Krakinove),
Kovno gubernia.

Note that B is a Hebrew-to-Hebrew copy while A is a transliteration of a
Russian-language 1903 register, so B may preserve the original spelling
more faithfully than A.
