This is the 1878 Kedainiai (Keidan) Jewish birth register, male record 23 (LVIA 1226/1/1521, FamilySearch film 2289447, image 304). I read it as Izrael, son of Zusman Abelovich Kamber and Mere Itskhokovna Smilg, of the Keidan community. I'd like help with two things:
1. Can you confirm the mother's surname is Smilg (Смильгъ), and read the rest of the entry, including the date?
2. The same Mere Kamber's 1930 Kedainiai death record names her parents as Itsik Krost and Feige Male, which matches the 1874 household of Itsyk Krost and Feyga Malka. Why might a woman appear as Smilg in one record and Krost in another? Could it be a first husband's name, a step-family, or a clerk's error? I'd also welcome any pointers to Keidan records that might settle it.
Thank you!
