We believe this postcard was written by my maternal Grandfather Lazer Garfinkel, possibly to announce the birth of his son Israel. The reverse side has a floral design with the Hebrew word "Israel." Translation would help us with additional family history and will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On  Response
10/7/2026 8:42 PM YISRAEL [Israel] son of

Eliezer the Cohen

born on the 5th of November

in Yiddish the 18th of Cheshvan

in the year 1920

n the city of Pinsk

Eliezer Garfinkel
===============================================
Interestingly, he begins his name, Eliezer, with an Ayin, which is using Yiddish pronunciation rules, rather than with the standard Hebrew spelling, which has an Alef as the first letter.

There is a discrepancy between the religious and secular dates.

If the 5th of November, 1920, is correct, then the Jewish date would be the 24th/25th of Cheshvan. The Jewish year would be 5681.

If the 18th of Cheshvan is correct, the secular date would be October 29th/30th.
