Spilt Milk is the story of Dr Len Lotzof and how his ancestry and the adopted land of his parents shaped his attitude to life and distaste for the oppressive and racist hatred that prevailed in South Africa.
 
The love and care of his black Nanny whom he adored, and his close association with the Africans employed by his father on his farms, initiated his empathy with the indigenous people. He exposes the lies of the white majority and the dangers of milk as a preferred food, in a meld of religion, medical attitude, and acute political observation, culminating in his immigration to Australia
 
Len Lotzof was born in South Africa in 1920. He died in Australia in 1997, the year the court decided, in Bonello v Lotzof, that he was not in breach of his duty of care when he vaccinated a child with the triple antigen pertussis vaccine, and was not negligent. His pioneering work on food intolerance and allergy helped pave the way for current treatment.
 
Co-writer Maureen Nathan is a pharmacist and authority on clinical nutrition using vitamins, minerals and enzymes, building on the knowledge of her father, Len Lotzof.
