The goals of the Southern Africa Jewish Genealogy
 Special Interest Group (SA-SIG) are:

    - to bring together Jewish genealogy researchers with a common interest in Southern Africa,

 - to provide a forum (through a JewishGen listserv) for the dissemination of information about research methods, records, etc. in Southern Africa,

 - to develop a searchable database of names from data extracted from microfilms located in the LDS Family History Library and/or other areas,

 - to encourage SIG members to establish SA town Resource Networking Groups,

 - to encourage SIG members to establish SA town WebPages for their Southern African towns,

 - to encourage SIG members to submit their family trees to The Family Tree of the Jewish People at http://www.jewishgen.org/gedcom/,

 - to encourage SIG members to translate parts of Yizkor books and submit the translations to the Yizkor Book Project http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/translations.html,

 - to raise money through donations to complete projects of interest to our members. These could include:

 - Shipping Records,

                     - Obtaining and translating business directories for areas of interest with the intention of placing the information into searchable databases.

Contributions

A.. DESIGNATED CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOUTHERN AFRICA
In our relationship with JewishGen, we have extended to our
members and participants the opportunity to make generous U.S.A. tax
deductible donations to JewishGen and to specify on the donation form
that this money is earmarked for the use by Southern Africa SIG for
its research projects. Money can be earmarked for specific projects
or for a general SA-SIG fund to be utilised as needed and wherever
designated by the SIG.

B. UNDESIGNATED CONTRIBUTIONS TO JEWISHGEN

Because of a generous grant from an anonymous donor, JewishGen is
able to provide administrative assistance, as well as a home for the
Southern Africa SIG listserver (online discussion group), our
Southern Africa web site, and for our future searchable databases.

We all benefit from the efforts of the JewishGen organisation and
the services it provides. Therefore, we strongly encourage each and
every one of our members and participants to make undesignated
donations to JewishGen in addition to the donations to Southern
Africa as mentioned above.

JewishGen is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. Contributions to
JewishGen are tax-deductible in the U.S.A. according to law for both
designated (Southern Africa) and undesignated (JewishGen) donations.

We look forward to your participation in our on-line discussion
group, and hope that our co-operative and reciprocal communication
will benefit all who are researching their Jewish roots in Southern
Africa
