Borough of Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes, a new town created in the 1960's, is about fifty miles north of central London. In 1974, the town became part of the local government district (later borough) of Milton Keynes, within the county of Buckinghamshire. The district was formed by the merger of a number of local authorities, including the urban districts of Bletchley, Newport Pagnell and Wolverton and the rural district of Newport Pagnell (which included the village of Haversham). In 1997, the borough of Milton Keynes became a unitary authority, remaining within the county of Buckinghamshire for ceremonial purposes.

The Milton Keynes Jewish Community

There was a medieval Jewish community in Newport Pagnell (then known simply as Newport). However, in modern times, it was not until World War II, when Jewish communities established in the area, in Bletchley and Haversham, by families evacuated from London. Subsequently a reform congregation was established in Milton Keynes.
