Officials in Washington, D.C., decide to admit the Bodner Family

As usual, when the Port Commissioner recommended admission the Commissioner-General agreed. Frank Larned, the Acting Commissioner-General signed a routine memorandum transmitting the Bodner case record for review by the Secretary of Labor. He too recommended overturning the BSI decision and admitting the Bodner family.

The Bodners' file contains only a copy of the telegram sent from the Secretary of Labor to Ellis Island ordering admission of the Bodner family. The Labor Secretary's office also prepared a document, in this case probably just one page, rendering the decision and giving the reasons therefor. That document went to Ellis Island, where it was later destroyed. Most surviving files do contain a copy of the final decision.
