The appeal document below was most likely prepared by a representative of an immigrant aid society, perhaps Louis Frank, who witnesses the document at bottom. Society workers on Ellis Island knew what information to put into--and leave out of--an appeal. Note that while all officials (government and advocate) continue to refer to the immigrant as "Hocher" Bodner, the signature suggests "Asir," and Rabbi Rypins referred to him as "Asher."
