Guided Project with one-on-one Instruction for your Immigrant Family who settled in New York City.

Our immigrant ancestors have left a rich legacy in New York City, having lived in various neighborhoods such as the Lower East Side, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Westchester, Long Island, and New Jersey. While we have access to the census and vital records from FamilySearch and ItalianGen, there are many other kinds of New York resources to add to information about your family. Documents that our ancestors generated, such as naturalization papers, probate records, landsmanshaften, voter registrations, newspapers, and court cases will be discussed for access..

Some documents can be accessed online and others can only be accessed through various archives on-site.

Skills you will learn

Life in New York City 1840-1950. New York City's records including lesser known sources; where to access them.

Format

This is a New York City Research Class with an instructor. It is taught in a private forum. It has four downloadable chapters in PDF format. The student will post their research project according to the instructor's directions. Student and Instructor will work on individualized research plan. Group Zoom sessions will introduce resources, and guide the student through databases and other resources.

Requirements

This is an intermediary class. Students should select a NYC family where census and vital records research has been documented. Students must feel comfortable browsing the web and downloading files.

Tuition

Tuition is $150 for 3 weeks.
