Totnes, South Hams

Totnes is a small town situated in southern Devon in South West England, a few miles inland from Torquay. Since 1974 it has formed part of the local government district of South Hams in the county of Devon, and was previously a municipal borough.

Totnes Jewish Community

Although there are records of Jews in Totnes in the early nineteenth century, it was not until the early twenty first century that a small organised Jewish group was established, centred in and around the town.

The Community describes itself as a small, open-hearted chavurah style community who come together for social, cultural and spiritual gatherings, events and informal services in the Torbay area, having a regular monthly shabbat meal, as well as frequent get togethers honouring all the major festivals.(ii)
