The Connecticut Jewish Ledger
Obituary Database
The Connecticut Jewish Ledger
is a weekly Jewish newspaper for the state of Connecticut.
It started in 1929.
In 2001, I started indexing the obituary notices appearing in back issues
of The Connecticut Jewish Ledger at the Jewish Historical Society of
Greater New Haven's archives. The archives' holdings for the years
1946, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1972 and 1974
are incomplete, but I have indexed the issues that they do have.
The archive's holdings of the newspaper are complete from 1975 to present.
This database currently contains indexes for Jan-June 1975, 1988 and 1989,
and 1998 through 2002. At this time the index contains almost 5,000
entries.
Fields recorded in this database are: Last Name, First Name, Maiden Name,
Issue Date and Page, Date of Death, Place of Residence, and Former Place of
Residence.
Information which may be present in the obituaries, but is not included in
this index, includes: where died, survived by or predeceased by, and if there
was more than one prior residence or marriage.
A copy of the original obituary can be obtained from
The Jewish Historical Society of Greater
New Haven. Please contact them via mail or telephone;
there is no data on their website.
The Society offices are normally open Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM until noon (EST).
