- Bobby Furst has provided H-SIG with a
digital copy of the burial book for Michalovce, Slovakia, to the
H-SIG. Burials range from the 19th century until the late 20th
century. If interested in helping to transliterate the book for the
JewishGen On-line Worldwide Burial Registry, please contact Vivian
Kahn vkahn@kmort.com).
- H-SIG volunteers have indexed more than
11,000 Jewish vital records as part of JewishGenÕs first partnership
project with FamilySearch.
The records, from the Hungarian State Archives, date back to
the early 19th century. The index is now searchable at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1787825
and will be incorporated into the JewishGen Hungary Database.
The JewishGen Hungary
database at http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Hungary/ covers al of pre-Trianon Hungary. Two other
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) also have information on areas that were
formerly part of Hungary. The Sub-Carpathia SIG http://www.jewishgen.org/Sub-Carpathia/ covers parts of the pre-World War I
counties of Bereg, Maramaros, Ugocsa, and Ung now in Ukraine. The Romania
SIG http://www.jewishgen.org/Romsig/ covers areas of Hungary that were in
Transylvania (Erdely) before World War I.
